IMPD identifies victim in fatal west side shooting

Indianapolis Metro Police have identified a man who died in a shooting Wednesday night.

The victim was identified as 46-year-old Modesto Morales-Cevada. IMPD is seeking a suspect described as a black male, mid-twenties, six tall with a slim build, wearing a black T-shirt, dark colored jeans and a black cotton hood over his head with a large hole cut into it for the eyes.

Dispatchers received the call just before 11:00 p.m. Wednesday north of the intersection of 38th St. and High School Road on Mission Drive.

Police found the victim outside, near his apartment in the Woodhaven Apartment complex, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medics pronounced the man dead on the scene.

Detectives believe a robbery led to the shooting, based on accounts from several witnesses who were outside at the time. 

An IMPD K-9 searched the scene, but turned up nothing.
