Police have identified an Indianapolis man who was killed in a crash early Monday morning.

Indianapolis Metro Police say 24-year-old Carlos Guevara died in the crash. His passenger, 27-year-old Edgar Hurtado, also of Indianapolis, is in critical condition at Eskenazi Health.

The car struck an IPL pole between Gale and LaSalle on the east side just after 1:00 a.m. Monday.

An IMPD officer was stopped at the light at Michigan and Sherman and saw the grey Mitsubishi Lancer speeding westbound on Michigan with no headlights.

When officers arrived, they found the driver unresponsive and suffering from apparent trauma. Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene. His male passenger was transported to Eskenazi Health in critical condition.
