IMPD hosts Community Day on Georgia Street
Keeping your family safe is the point behind a big event taking place downtown this morning - IMPD Community Day will kick off at 11:00 a.m. on Georgia Street.
The block of Georgia St. between Illinois and Meridian will be full of free food, fun and, most importantly, helpful information to protect you and your family.
IMPD held a similar event in June in Garfield Park. The event highlights safety and prevention through several agencies including the Indiana State Police, the Indianapolis Fire Department, Marion County Prosecutor's Office, Emergency Medical Services, FBI and the Marion County Crime lab.
This summer started off on a violent note with a series of murders that put the community on edge and forced IMPD to increase patrols and change strategies. With the community's help, the tide is turning on violent crime and IMPD wants to use this day to also say "thank you."
"We want the public to feel that we really appreciate all their help," said IMPD Commander Karen Arnett. 'And I tell you, a lot of our crime-fighting effort really engages the community to a great deal."
Among the food vendors offering free samples: Chick-Fil-A, Claddagh Irish Pub, Dick's Last Resort, Elbow Room Pub, Greek Islands Restaurant, Harry and Izzy's, Hooter's, Jack in the Box, Kilroy's, Tilted Kilt, Weber Grill and more.
