IFD puts out 2 house fires early Sunday morning

Indianapolis Firefighters worked two house fires just after midnight Sunday morning.

Crews were dispatched to 2945 N. Chester Ave. at 12:07am.  The homeowners noticed smoke in the kitchen area and left the house to call 911.

When firefighters arrived, smoke was showing.

Crews quickly extinguished that fire that possibly started in the kitchen area.  There were no injuries reported on the scene.  Damage was estimated to be about $20,000.

While one crew was fighting the fire on Chester Avenue, another fire was reported at 826 Dearborn Street at 12:21 a.m.

Smoke was showing when crews arrived at the vacant house.

That fire was put out in 15 minutes, leaving about $3,000 in damage.

The cause of that fire is still under investigation.
