An overnight fire on the west side of Indianapolis forced a man out of his home Sunday.

When 49-year-old Tony Martin arrived from work early Sunday morning, he found his home at 3668 Middlefield Drive on fire. Martin noticed black smoke as he opened his door, called 911 and alerted his neighbors of the danger.

IFD crews responded to the fire just before 4 a.m. and were able to contain the fire within six minutes. Firefighters held the flames to just one apartment unit. No one was injured in the fire, IFD expects the damages to total less than $100,000. Martin is now staying with relatives.

IFD and Metro Police are still investigating what sparked the blaze.
