Two men who started renovations on A house in the 900 block of North Concord Street in Haughville found what investigators believe may be human remains.

The men bought the house at auction. Several houses on the block are under renovation.

The remains were found in the basement of the boarded-up home.

Ashley Brown has been living next door since late last year.

"When they took the boards off the door you could smell a strong odor that actually smelled like a dead body," said Brown.

The coroner is now working to try to identify the remains. Homicide detectives will look closely at missing persons reports and compare that data to what the coroner determines as far as time of death, race and gender.

The autopsy will also help determine if foul play is involved in this case.
