A northwestern Indiana fire official says an infant and two other children have died in an overnight house fire in the city of Hammond.

Hammond Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Margraf tells WMAQ-TV that Wednesday night's fire killed a 6-month-old and siblings ages three and six.

The victims' 28-year-old father and two other children, ages three and six, were taken to a Hammond hospital but were expected to be moved to a Chicago hospital's burn unit. Margraf says the man was badly burned while the surviving children suffered smoke inhalation.

He says the family's home was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived. The home had space heaters, but Margraf says the fire's cause remains under investigation with assistance from the state fire marshal.
