Historic theater could remain in limbo for years
The owner of a historic theater in southwestern Indiana says the structure could remain idle for a year or more and that he doesn't expect to restore it.
Realtor Health Klein gained preliminary ownership of the Pantheon Theatre in Vincennes in October after Travis Tarrants and the Pantheon Theatre Co. missed a deadline to pay $15,000 owed in back taxes.
Klein tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial he has a few people interested in buying the nearly century-old theater. But he says he's still working to complete all the paperwork and is in a holding pattern.
The Pantheon has been on Indiana Landmarks' list of the state's most-endangered structures since 2011. Red Skelton first appeared on stage there. Acts including Duke Ellington and the Marx Brothers also performed there.
