High winds hinder firefighters in Camby overnight

Firefighters say high winds caused a Camby house fire to spread too quickly for them to contain overnight.

The single story house in the 400 block of Collett Drive was burning when Morgan County fire crews arrived early Monday morning and started fighting the fire.

But once the fire spread through the roof of the house, 35 mile-per-hour winds in the area spread the flames and forced the crews to assume a defensive stance.

The residents were able to safely evacuate, according to Larry Hayes of the Madison Twp. Fire Department - one of five departments that responded to the scene with tankers and apparatus.
