High-tech child care center set to open in Avon

It won't be long before school is back in session and right now, parents of pre-schoolers are making up their minds about child care.

There's a new offering that opens its doors in Hendricks County and it promises some high-tech solutions for parents to monitor their little ones.

Curious residents have been stopping by at the newest child care in their neighborhood, which caters to children from infant to kindergarten age. The Children of America Educational Childcare and Academy at 7106 Governors Row in Avon opens later this month.

Dana Hicks is a former principal in the nearby Brownsburg School District. She'll oversee everything here, thanks to glass walls throughout the school.

"With it being glass, keeps it a very open concept, it's helpful for security, it's helpful for making sure the teachers and the children are visible to me," Hicks said.

And they'll be visible to parents as well, through multiple cameras they can access over the Internet.

"This is a big piece of mind for parents. Especially ones that are just enrolling newborns, the little babies, that's hard for parents to leave. We can tell them that they're going to be fine, but seeing that they're fine is very assuring to parents," Hicks said.

Children of America will operate out of this structure which was built three years ago. A previous child care business was unable to open. This will be the second location in central Indiana. The first one opened in Lawrence a couple of years ago.

"It has a strong academic component to it, (it) has the component of mind and body matters, with a strong emphasis on healthy lifestyles, physical fitness, good nutrition," Hicks said.

There are 50 COA centers across the country. The location in Avon opens on July 23.
