TWO WOMEN TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER HOUSE FIRE.
Indianapolis firefighters say two women were taken to the hospital after an early morning house. It happened in the 2300 block of East Beecher Street, just off of Churchman Road and north of Raymond Street on the city's southeast side. A 73-year-old woman escaped on her own before firefighters arrived shortly before 4:15 a.m., but her 53-year-old sister had to be rescued and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition, according to IFD spokesperson Rita Reith. Reith said the fire started when one of the women was cooking bacon on the stove and lost control of a grease fire.
PRAYER BREAKFAST FOCUSES ON COMBATING VIOLENCE:
With homicides and shootings in Indianapolis on a record pace, community help to combat crime is needed now more than ever. That's what the Ten Point Coalition has been doing since it started more than fifteen years ago. This morning, they're holding their biggest fundraiser of the year with their Community Prayer Breakfast. Their number one tool is people. The more people they can put on the streets in their faith patrols to help address violence face to face, the better their chances of stopping it before it happens. They're help is needed now more than ever. A look at the latest crime statistics for Indianapolis show that, when it comes to homicides, we already have 12 more this year so far than we did at the same time last year. Non-fatal shootings are also up by 13. If we stay on this track, we'll beat last year's numbers which had the highest murder rate in eight years.
A BREAK ON HIGH GAS PRICES:
There's a gas station in central indiana that will offer fuel for less than three dollars. The Spirit of Life Church wanted to provide a blessing to the community, so church members will pump gas and wash windows at the Country Mark gas station in Clermont today. It's called a "Gas Buy Down." The church raised more than $3,000 to bring the price per gallon down to $2.99. This is the third year for the event and it runs today from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
BIG POWERBALL JACKPOT:
You may want to buy a Powerball ticket this weekend. The Powerball jackpot has grown to an estimated 221 million dollars. The jackpot has rolled over 12 times since the end of April. The cash option for Saturday's drawing is 132 million dollars before taxes.
