Hancock County to test new emergency alert system
Thousands of people are set to get an emergency call from Hancock County Thursday, but it's only a test.
The sheriff's department is rolling out it's new "emergency alert system." It can warn people about severe weather like tornadoes and snowstorms. It can also notify people about missing children or highway closings.
A test call will go out Thursday for 23,000 homes and businesses.
People in Hancock County can also go online to sign up their cell phones if they want to get alerts while they're away from home.
