Hamilton Southeastern's Harris is Mr. Basketball
Gary Harris of Hamilton Southeastern is the Indianapolis Star's Mr. Basketball for 2012.
Harris, who will play college basketball at Michigan State, averaged 25.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.4 steals and 3.9 assists for the 22-3 Royals this season.
In the closest race since 2005, Harris received 154 votes from the state's coaches and media for the state's top individual senior award. Indianapolis Park Tudor's Yogi Ferrell was second with 103 votes, Kellen Dunham of Pendleton Heights third with 34 and Gary Lake Central's Glenn Robinson III fourth with 11.
His signature play this season was a 35-foot game-winning shot in sectional play against Indianapolis North Central.
