Hamilton Southeastern considers longer school days

Hamilton Southeastern is proposing a longer school day for the rest of the year instead of snow make-up days currently scheduled for June.

The state is allowing school districts some flexibility as they determine the best way to make up for lost time. In a statement Tuesday, HSE officials said, "We appreciate the flexibility given to school districts to increase learning time before important year-end tests such as ISTEP, IREAD, and End-of-Course Assessments. HSE surveyed its teaching staff and asked PTO Presidents for feedback about a possible plan. Careful consideration was also given to after-school events and activities as well as transportation schedules."

HSE officials say the longer days will "allow extended instructional blocks to support innovative learning." If approved, the last day of classes for the year would be on Friday, May 30th, and no make-up days would be held in June.

The new schedule would take effect on Monday, March 3 and continue through the last day of school on Friday, May 30.

The plan is being recommended to the Board of School Trustees for action at their Monday, February 24, 5:30 p.m. meeting.
Proposed schedule:

K-4  8:53 AM - 3:47 PM
FCI & SCI  7:55 AM - 2:54 PM
RSI & Junior Highs 7:32 AM - 2:57 PM
HSE Freshman Center 7:32 AM - 2:56 PM
FHS & HSE Main Campus 7:32 AM - 3:06 PM
