Groundhog handlers say Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, forecasting 6 more weeks of winter.

It happens every winter, captivates the nation and leaves a lot of fans disappointed.

Groundhog Day this year fell on Sunday, about 12 hours before the Super Bowl. It's the first time the prognosticating marmot has made his appearance on the day of the NFL championship.

The odds were against Punxsutawney Phil failing to see his shadow at Gobbler's Knob and therefore predicting a short winter. Organizers say there's historically been about an 85 percent chance that he will forecast six more weeks of winter.

Organizers say about 20,000 revelers attend the early morning event in western Pennsylvania.
