Greenwood teen killed in Franklin moped crash

Police have identified the 15-year-old moped rider who was killed in a crash Monday morning in Franklin.

Jacob Derrickson, 15, of Greenwood, was riding his moped south on US 31 at around 8:30 am when a car that was turning into a bank lot struck him. The car, which was northbound on US 31, was turning into the bank parking lot, which is on the west side of US 31.

According to police, Derrickson ran into the passenger side of the car with his moped. The driver told police she hadn't seen him.

Derrickson was transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead from his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

Franklin Police reconstructed the crash scene and the case is still under investigation. The driver of the car, Elaine Maurer, 25, tested negative for alcohol.
