Gary teen at center of AMBER Alert charged in mom's murder

GARY, Ind. (WTHR) - A 15-year-old girl who was the subject of an AMBER Alert Monday has been arrested for her mother's murder.

Police issued the alert for Chastinea Reeves when she disappeared around 2 a.m. Monday, around the same time that her mother, 34-year-old Jamie Garnett, was stabbed to death.

Thursday, the Lake County prosecutor charged Reeves with murder, The Times of Northwest Indiana reports.

Reeves is being held at the juvenile center in Lake County. Prosecutors plan to seek adult charges against her when she goes to court April 12.
