GARY - A Gary man is in jail after leading police on a chase that left three officers and a motorist injured.

Commander Pete Sormaz says 28-year-old Dantrell Jawan Winford faces charges of criminal recklessness, aggravated battery, battery on police and resisting arrest.

Sormaz says Cpl. Richard Pratt stopped Winford and was talking to him when Winford shifted his car into reverse, striking Pratt with the sideview mirror and colliding with two cars. The ensuing chase ended when Winford struck another car, fled his vehicle, climbed a fence and hid in brush until Cpl. Primo Rodriguez and Officer Foster Ward subdued him.

Sormaz says Pratt, Rodriguez and the driver of the last car Winford struck received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Ward also was hurt but did not seek medical attention.
