Foster's 34 leads Santa Clara over Purdue in CBI

Kevin Foster scored 34 points to lead Santa Clara to an 86-83 second-round win over Purdue in the College Basketball Invitational at Mackey Arena.

Foster was fouled on a jump shot with 13:52 left in the second half that tied the game. The ensuing free throw gave the Broncos a lead they would not relinquish.

Freshman Ronnie Johnson scored 27 points to lead the Boilermakers. North Central High School grad Terone Johnson added 22, but missed a three-pointer that would have tied the game in the closing seconds.

Purdue ends the season with a 16-18 record.
