A former central Indiana jail guard faces strangulation and other charges stemming from an alleged attack on an inmate.

Thirty-six-year-old Jason T. Young of Elwood was charged Tuesday with felony counts of strangulation and official misconduct. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of battery resulting in bodily injury.

Tipton County Sheriff John Moses tells the Kokomo Tribune Young was fired last September following the alleged attack at the county jail.

Court documents say Young moved inmate Derik Brannum to a special cell after overhearing him use an expletive in telling his cellmate to call for the holding area's lights and television to be turned back on.

When the inmate complained about being punished, Young allegedly entered the cell, where he pushed, choked and hit Brannum.
