The group Flock of Seagulls is making do with rented equipment - after someone took wing with $70,000 worth of its gear.

The ripoff happened while they were staying at a motel in Downey, California. The group's frontman Mike Score tells the Los Angeles Daily News someone swiped the group's rented van early Sunday morning.

It contained stage clothing, guitars, drums and a keyboard. Score says the thief also got some hard drives containing songs for his first solo album; he says that represents 18 months of work.

Score believes the culprits followed the band from their show the night before in Bellflower, California. The 1980s-era group is moving on to continue its tour in London.
