Fishers mom arrested for leaving young children alone
A Fishers mother faces neglect charges after police say she left her young children home alone. One of the children, an 18-month-old boy, was found wandering around the neighborhood by himself.
A concerned neighbor spotted the toddler wandering alone in the Geist Overlook neighborhood near 116th St. and Ringer Road. The neighbor recognized the boy and brought him back home, where the child's five-year-old and three-year-old siblings were home alone.
The five-year-old told the neighbor that their mother had left them alone while she ran an errand. The neighbor called police.
The children's mother, 40-year-old Alaa Alouran, arrived home and told a police officer who was waiting there that she was out running an errand at the Super Target, which is about three miles away.
The Department of Child and Family Services was called in and took custody of the children. Their mother was taken to the Hamilton County Jail.
The children were later returned to the custody of their father after police got in touch with him.
