Firefighters battle east side house fire
Indianapolis fire investigators are checking to see what started an early morning fire on the city's east side.
It started just after 4:30 this morning in the 400 block of North Chester Avenue, just east of Sherman, between Michigan Street and New York Street.
Firefighters on the scene say everyone inside the home got out safely. They tell us that the home was vacant at the time, and some of the homeless had been using it for shelter.
The home is a total loss, with damage estimated to be around $60,000.
