Fire truck crashes at south side motel

An Indianapolis Fire Department engine was involved in an accident at a south side motel after the drive suffered a medical emergency Sunday afternoon. 

Fire crews were dispatched to the Marriott Courtyard in the 4600 block of Southport Crossings Road for a fire alarm just before 4 p.m.  

Firefighters had completed checking the alarm and were leaving when the drive the driver of the fire truck suffered from a medical condition.  He accelerated and lost control of the truck causing it to hit a vehicle, shrubbery and a small part of the building. 

The driver of the fire truck was transported to Methodist Hospital for treatment from the medical condition but was not injured in the crash. Three other firefighters who were on the truck at the time were not injured.
