Fire run at Riverside Intermediate School in Fishers
Firefighters were called to Riverside Intermediate School in Fishers Tuesday morning after smoke was reported in the cafeteria.
About 2,000 students and staff were evacuated due to smoke filling the cafeteria and adjacent halls of the first floor. Fire alarms sounded, prompting the evacuation.
No smoke or fire was visible from outside of the school.
Marianna Richards with Hamilton Southeastern Schools says the cafeteria is in a building with the utilities services located between Riverside Junior High School and the Intermediate School.
Firefighters said a furnace fan burned out. The smoke was vented out of the building and no injuries were reported. The students were allowed back inside and normal school activities resumed.
