Fire brings out community support
While firefighters were battling the massive recycling center blaze, the Indianapolis community was pulling together to figure out how they could help.
With temperatures in the 80's with added humidity, the Indianapolis Fire Department realized they were in need of donations of water or Gatorade for its firefighters.
Captain Rita Burris, said "The Indianapolis Fire Department would like to thank the community for their kind words and donations. Today's incident is a great example of how government, not for profits and the private sector come together during an emergency."
She said food donations were made by The Christian Brethren of Indianapolis. Marsh and Kroger Grocery stores supplied water and Gatorade.
Citizens have asked to donate supplies for future incidents. IFD is asking that any further donations of water and Gatorade be taken to IFD Station 5, 450 West 21st Street.
