Fire badly damages Scottsburg downtown building
Fire has badly damaged a business building on the courthouse square of a small southern Indiana city.
Scottsburg Fire Chief James Richey tells WAVE-TV that the blaze apparently started from an explosion early Thursday. Richey says that when firefighters arrived flames were coming from the second floor of the brick building and heavy smoke was pouring out.
The building housed a financial services office and a dentist's office in the city about 30 miles north of Louisville, Ky. Building owner Sandee Owens tells WHAS-TV that it was undergoing renovations and only a portion was leased.
Flames came through the building's roof. Richey says the fire was difficult to extinguish because the roof was made of a rubber-like substance. No injuries were reported.
