Fatal accident shuts down I-70 southwest of Indy
A fatal accident closed I-70, southwest of Indianapolis, in both directions for two hours Sunday morning.
Putnam County officials say a vehicle flipped over near the 43-44 mile marker. The only occupant in the car died at the scene.
Dispatchers got the first call about the accident at 3:07 a.m. Sunday.
West bound traffic was directed off the interstate at SR 39. East bound traffic was stopped near the accident site, just passed US 231. Drivers said it looked like a parking lot.
Officials reported extremely icy conditions in that area.
All lanes were open by 5:30 a.m.
