Family of nine escapes northeast side house fire
A family of nine was forced to leave their home in the 7700 block of Chatham Court early Thursday morning when their heat pump caught fire.
Chris and Melanie Woolard were home with their seven children when a neighbor heard a loud noise, looked out their window and saw fire burring outside of the Woolard home.
Police responded to the neighbor's 911 call, and alerted the Woolards about the fire. They were able to safely leave the house.
Their children range in age from 11 to six months old.
IFD firefighters estimate the damage to the home at $20,000. The family does not require victims assistance, according to IFD.
