The family of the bus driver who died in Monday morning's fatal crash is speaking out for the first time.

The brother of Thomas Spencer released this statement to Eyewitness News:

"The Spencer Family, although grieving themselves over the loss of Tommy, would like the family of Donasty Smith to know that we are praying for their loss, and that we continue to pray for all the students injured in Monday's tragedy. Tommy loved driving and he especially enjoyed interacting with the kids. We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers and would ask everyone to continue praying for the students at Lighthouse Charter School."

Much of the family is making their way to Indianapolis to make funeral arrangements.

The Marion County coroner determined that Thomas Spencer II, 60, died of blunt force trauma from the crash. Spencer was driving the Lighthouse Charter School bus early Monday morning when for unknown reasons he crashed into a railroad bridge pillar on Emerson Ave.

Spencer had 15 years of experience driving buses.

Donasty Smith, 5, was also killed in the crash and several other students were injured.
