Explosion causes apartment fire and structural concerns
Firefighters are trying to figure out the source of a small explosion inside an apartment at Rowney Terrace Apartments on the east side.
A neighbor called 911 just before 11:00 p.m. Saturday night to report a fire in the 1500 block of South Bancroft Street. That is located near Emerson and Southeastern.
Firefighters could see heavy smoke coming from the building when they arrived.
Investigators tell Eyewitness News they think a "flash over" or explosion of some sort happened in one of the apartments and blew out a wall from inside.
IFD crews say the owner of that apartment, Dwayne Robinson, was not home at the time of the fire.
Robinson's unit was the only apartment that caught fire, but all 16 people in the building had to leave because firefighters are worried about structural stability.
No one was hurt.
Victims Assistance was working with apartment management to arrange shelter for the displaced residents.
