Evansville schools adopting new sign-in system
Evansville's school district is adopting a new Web-based sign-in system designed to ensure that visitors to school buildings aren't registered sex offenders.
The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. will implement the new Raptor system over the first few weeks of the school year that begins Monday.
Raptor scans visitors' driver's licenses or government-issued photo identification cards and runs a background check with the registered sex offender list in all 50 states. It also checks their name against the district's list of people banned from school properties.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports Raptor will also check student custody records and provide school volunteers a more efficient way to sign in.
Raptor also provides a list of every visitor in the building, accessible to building officials, in case of an emergency.
