Evansville firm to make pitch for medical center

An Evansville development firm is scheduled to make its pitch Wednesday to try to persuade officials to put a health science education and research center planned by Indiana University's medical school on undeveloped land on the east side of the city.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports the Martin Group wants to put the planned medical complex on a 215-acre tract known as The Promenade. The firm wants to show how the center would fit into its larger plans for retail, entertainment and housing on the property.

Developers announced plans to build The Promenade several years ago, but the recession put those plans on hold.

IU's Evansville campus serves students for two years now, but the new site would allow students to finish their medical education in Evansville.
