ESPN turned to "Rudy" to explain and begin hyping up the new College Football Playoff with a YouTube video

The 2014-15 college football season will make history as the first season capped by a playoff system instead of the long-standing Bowl Championship Series.

Since ESPN inked a $5.64 billion, 12-year deal to broadcast the new College Football Playoff, the network turned to none other than "Rudy," a.k.a. actor Sean Astin, to explain the system in a YouTube video. The clip was published Monday, July 14 even though the playoffs won't actually start until January. The choice in timing is likely because despite long-running fan criticism of the BCS, change is always hard, even - or especially - for die hard fans who follow closely.
