Police in Hancock County say an inmate who did not return to jail after a work release has been captured.

Officials released photos of 32-year-old John Kanieski and a description of his car, saying he threatened a shootout with police.  He was captured early Saturday morning.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Department said he was moved to work release on Wednesday. He left around 8 a.m. Thursday to look for a job, but did not return to the jail at his scheduled time, 12:30 p.m.

An hour later, jail workers realized Kanieski had not returned and began to search for him. Police later received word that Kanieski had obtained a gun and threatened to shoot at police if they tried to stop him.

Kanieski was in jail for battery with serious bodily injury.
