Environmental groups lobby to keep IN energy efficiency programs
A number of environmental groups converged on the statehouse Wednesday to ask lawmakers to protect energy efficiency jobs in the state.
A bill currently being heard in the legislature would, according to the groups, put an end to the state's successful statewide energy savings programs implemented by former Governor Mitch Daniels.
Those programs have saved electric customers almost $3 million a year.
According to environmental advocate Jodi Perras, "Utilities will go back to the way they were, running energy efficiency programs only if, how and when they want to. If that is not killing the Energy Indiana program, then I don't know what is."
Senate Bill 340 is up for concurrence Wednesday in the Indiana Senate.
