Emergency workers brave cold overnight temperatures
The overnight low temperature in the metro area fell to 5 degrees, and is likely to drop even more before sunrise, prompting more than 200 schools to call for delays.
The cold temperatures kept utility workers busy, as well.
A Duke Energy power line broke at 116th and Allisonville Road around 2:45 a.m., leaving more than 1,600 Fishers customers without power. Duke is currently servicing the broken line. The traffic signal is out at the intersection, and the outage extends north to 126th and south to East Street, just north of 106th.
Power was restored shortly before 5:30 a.m.
Indianapolis Fire crews worked a one story house fire in the 200 block of Belmar at 3:30 a.m.
The people in the house believe the fire started in their fireplace an spread into the wall, doing approximately $70-thousand in damage. Everybody made it out of the house safely, including three pets.
The family of five was offered victims assistance went elsewhere for the night.
Citizens Water reported a main break at 38th and Denny.
