Elton John dedicates Beijing show to political critic

He had fans in the stands. But Elton John didn't make many fans among members of the Chinese government during his performance in Beijing.

During his show last night, John said he was dedicating his concert to Chinese artist and political critic Ai Weiwei. The very mention of the dissident sent a murmur of shock through the audience.

Western pop shows in China are often under tight censorship. Such monitoring got even tighter after Bjork shouted "Tibet, Tibet" at the end of a song during a 2008 performance in Shanghai.
