Indiana State Police say they are investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred after a police chase Sunday night.

According to Elkhart Police, around 8:00 p.m. officers attempted a traffic stop on a 1995 Chevrolet pickup that was also reported stolen. The driver of the truck refused to stop and led police on a chase that lasted more than 40 minutes.

The chase route led officers into Michigan and back to Elkhart and ended when police shot the driver behind a house near 4th Street and Marion Street.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

State Police investigate fatal shootings involving municipal officers as normal protocol.  The victim's name and officer's name have not been released.
