A dump truck fire closed the southbound lanes of I-465 for around 45 minutes Monday morning.

Flames and smoke poured from the vehicle and police shut down all lanes until the fire was under control. It happened on I-465 southbound near the Airport Expressway (mile marker 10.4). The ramp to the Sam Jones Expressway was closed during the fire.

The truck, which belongs to INDOT, is a natural-gas fueled vehicle.

INDOT says the truck hit a mattress that was in the roadway, which in turn ruptured a compressed natural gas line on the truck and started the fire.

Passing drivers in two other cars collided near the incident.

Fire crews from Wayne, Airport and Decatur responded. No injuries were reported. As of noon, traffic was moving slowly in the area.
