BROAD RIPPLE (WTHR) - It's a turkey day tradition in Indianapolis as thousands of people work off their Thanksgiving dinner calories before they eat them.

And and all for a good cause.

Nearly 20,000 people took off on the Drumstick Dash this morning.

Tom Anderson was the first to the finish in a time of 21:30.

Many others who took part started a day of traditional Thanksgiving activity.

"I'm gonna help my mom make food," said Trish Regan of Carmel after she finished the run.

Other runners looked forward to food, beer and watching the Colts and Steelers.

This is the 14th year for the race to benefit Wheeler Mission's effort to help the homeless in our city.

This is the year's biggest fundraiser for Wheeler Mission, and the event was sold out.
