Officials say a man drove his car into a canal then left the scene, when an attempt to get a ride home didn't work.

A 9-1-1 call came in about 4:24 a.m. from Baili Olive, 22, who told dispatchers she saw a car with headlights on in the canal.  That was near Westfield and  College Avenues.

The Indianapolis Fire Department says an unidentified male in his mid to late 20's drove a 2005 Buick Rendezvous into Central Canal.

Olive spotted the car and circled around, calling 9-1-1 to see if she could help.

According to IFD, she then encountered "a very soggy white male who offered her money for a ride to Fishers."

When she declined, he set off on foot, heading northbound.

IMPD was running the license plate and looking in the neighborhood for the driver while waiting for a tow truck to remove the still-energized car from the canal.
