Driver in custody after crashing through north Indianapolis apartments

A driver is in custody after crashing through an apartment building on the north side of Indianapolis.

Police say Terry Rowe, 53, crashed his Ford Explorer into a building at the Forest Ridge Apartments Monday evening. The SUV pierced through the entryway of four apartment units, causing extensive damage to the front doors of several apartments.

"All I saw was debris in the hallway and my apartment pretty much filled up with smoke pretty quick. Once I actually opened the doorway and cleared it out, you know, my neighbors actually told me what had happened, what was actually blocking my doorway," said resident Phil Davis.

Davis, his fiancé and three other residents in two separate apartments were evacuated, but no serious injuries were reported.

Police took Rowe in custody to interview him about what happened.
