Indianapolis - A Marion County deputy prosecutor has resigned after her arrest early Saturday morning in Broad Ripple.

Gillian DePrez, 28, is facing preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to a police report, DePrez had been driving east on 61st Street when her vehicle side-swiped another car. Police say DePrez backed up and sped away, turning south on Winthrop Avenue before being pulled over by a police officer.

The report says the officer who stopped DePrez noticed "a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on the driver's breath." She failed three field sobriety tests and registered a .15 blood alcohol level - nearly twice the legal limit.

Police charged her with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and failure to stop after an accident. Metro police declined to comment on the case, due to a "conflict of interest," they said, because officers work closely with the prosecutor's office.

A spokesman for Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi called DePrez "a great asset to our office and it's an unfortunate incident that occurred."

Prior to her resignation, DePrez was placed on unpaid administrative leave. The prosecutor's office will ask a judge for a special prosecutor from outside the county to handle her case.
