Decatur Twp. schools take steps to prevent bullying
The U.S. Justice Department says an Indianapolis school district will take steps to prevent bullying in a settlement agreement resolving a 2-year-old civil rights review prompted by reports of possible racial harassment.
The department said Thursday the Decatur Township Schools will work with the Great Lakes Equity Center at Indiana University-Purdue University to prevent and address harassment based on race, color, national origin and other characteristics.
The school district also will form an anti-harassment task force to review its policies and procedures on harassment, bullying and discipline and create a process for monitoring complaints so it can track repeated incidents involving individual students or groups.
The Decatur Township Schools also will provide training and school climate assessments for students and staff at two schools.
