Two people are dead Wednesday morning after an early morning crash along State Road 9 in Madison County.

The Madison County Sheriff says the crash between the two vehicles happened just after 6:30 a.m. along State Road 9, just north of State Road 28 near Alexandria. Investigators say a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 29-year-old Lukas Green of Muncie crossed the center line for an unknown reason and struck a GMC Jimmy head-on.

The driver of the GMC and a front-seat passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.

Green and 35-year-old Daniel Dimas of Alexandria, who was a passenger in the GMC, were flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Another passenger in the GMC, 17-year-old Kyle Kree of Anderson, was flown to St. Vincent Hospital on 86th Street, also in critical condition.

The accident remains under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff's Department.
