Deadline day for those searching for health coverage
Today is deadline day for Hoosiers wanting health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.
Hundreds turned out Saturday for a sign up event at Eskenazi Health, filling the lobby as they filled out forms. Eskenazi is one of the locations Hoosiers can turn to today to work with a health navigator. Those who sign up by 11:59pm tonight will be covered starting May 1st.
'It's a relief for my family,' explains Deana Escobar of Indianapolis, who signed up for health coverage over the weekend. It's the first time she and her family, which includes her husband and two children, have had insurance.
'You never know what's going to happen and we get sick and the kids and everything. It's a really good option for us,' Escobar adds.
Margarita Merito of Indianapolis has been without health insurance since October of last year. She pays about two hundred dollars a month for prescription medicine. Merito says about signing up for coverage, 'It feels great. I'm glad..I have my insurance. I'm not scared I might not have it. I'm assured that I do.'
Along with on site locations like Eskenazi Health, which will be open for sign up Monday 8:30am-4:30pm, Hoosiers can call the Navigator Hotline at 855-202-1053 from 7a-7p or go to www.healthcare.gov.
According to MSNBC, federal officials confirmed Tuesday evening that all consumers who have begun to apply for coverage on HealthCare.gov, but who do not finish by Monday, will have until about mid-April to ask for an extension.
Those who do sign up will have health coverage beginning May 1st.
