A Democratic accountant is entering Indiana's race for state auditor.

Mike Claytor is scheduled to announce Thursday that he will seek the Democratic Party's nomination for the job of the state's chief financial officer. If he is successful, Claytor would likely face Auditor Dwayne Sawyer in next year's general election.

Claytor served as a state examiner under former Gov. Bob Orr. He retired after rising to become a partner at Crowe Horwath.

Gov. Mike Pence selected Sawyer to fill out the term of Tim Berry, who left to become the state's Republican Party chairman.
