Couple wounded when gun is fired from apartment below


Metro police say two people were hurt Tuesday when a when a round from a handgun penetrated the floor of their apartment.

At about 6:25 p.m., police and medics were called to the 5700 block of Wiebeck Court, which is in an apartment complex near E. 56th St. and I-465. Sgt. Kendale Adams said officers found a man and a woman who had been wounded.

Investigators say a man in another apartment was cleaning a gun when it fell to the floor and discharged. The round from the weapon went through the ceiling and into the apartment above.

The man in that apartment was struck in the leg. Officers called it a "through-and-through wound". The projectile also grazed the foot of the woman. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police interviewed the man handling the gun. Adams said a decision as to whether he will face charges will be made by the prosecutor's office.
