Council president Lewis may run for Indianapolis mayor
A new potential candidate is emerging in the race for Indianapolis mayor.
City-County Council President Maggie Lewis tells Eyewitness News she may run for mayor, but she's not made a final decision. The Democrat has been Council president since 2012 and says others have been encouraging her to run.
She expects to make a decision soon.
Republican Mayor Greg Ballard has not officially decided to run for a third term next year.
The head of the Marion County Republican Party criticized Lewis Tuesday for not doing more to fund police and fix roads.
"She either doesn't care about the needs of our community, or she's incapable of leading her caucus," Kyle Walker said in a statement.
